Bailey, Judith
Proud to be Cornish, Judith was born in Camborne in 1941, and retains a home opposite Godrevy Lighthouse, where she frequently returns to compose and paint. Her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London included piano, clarinet, composition and conducting, and the acquisition of the above degrees and diplomas. Her first appointment was a peripatetic woodwind teacher, but, feeling she lacked the required vocation, she left scholl-teaching in 1971 and has never returned to it. Her subsequent career has included choral conducting, lecturing in Further Education Colleges and for the Workers' Educational Association as well as being a Tutor for the Open University. She has also produced a substantial amount of music and has held her present conducting appointments with Southhampton Concert Orchestra and Petersfield Orchestra for nearly thirty years.
Belonging to various professional associations such as the Cornish Music Guild, Portsmouth District Composers', COMA, and until it's recent re-formation, the Composers' Guild of Great Britain, she receives many requests and commitions for her music, resulting in numerous performances in Britain and overseas.
